Explanation of Event levels

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Training are non competitive events used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Overview

This is one of our approximately monthly series of friendly, informal training events aimed at newcomers and existing orienteers who wish to improve their skills. These sessions are run jointly by Mole-Valley and Guildford Orienteering Clubs and are free to members of these clubs. A £4 fee applies for non-members

Course Information

We will be providing 3 activities:

  1. Two courses for newcomers to try orienteering and there will be volunteers to help learn how to use an orienteering map to navigate around a course.
  2. For improvers, we continue the theme of contours and how best to interpret them to the best advantage 
  3. In addition, there will be a simple score course aimed at the more experienced and those who are looking to stretch their legs.

Miscellaneous

Please make sure that you come wearing shoes suitable for running off-road, full leg cover (NOT SHORTS!) and a compass and ‘dibber’ if you have them – they will be available to borrow if required.

Bring your own lunch and plenty to drink.

We will be based at the Chantry Wood Camp site in the Chantries,  If it  is raining we will retreat to the nearby woods
