Explanation of Event levels

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Training are non competitive events used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Overview

Final training event of the 2025/26 season 

Guildford (GO) and Mole Valley (MV) Orienteering Clubs have teamed up to offer training and coaching for orienteers, from novices to the fully-fledged - there's always room for improvement! Our joint GO/MV training activities are small, friendly events with basic practical exercises for beginners as well as opportunities for experienced orienteers to improve and develop their skills.

Course Information

Beginner
There will be two courses designed for newcomers, with volunteers able to accompany them if desired.

Improver
There will also be three improver courses  – focusing on flow, attack points and deciphering control descriptions so please bring a descriptions holder if you have one.

SCO-Revision
We provide a score-orienteering course for you to choose your own approach to practice, and opportunities to discuss afterwards (and/or beforehand) what you got out of it

Entry Details

Attendance is free to members of GO and MV. For anyone not lucky enough to be a member of either of our clubs we ask for £4 towards the cost of maps and land permission.

If you are coming as a bystander and/or to watch over your young charges and you are willing to help, please register (no cost) as a Helper.

Registration and Start times

Please enter on RaceSignup to ensure your place and so we can print the right number of maps. 

Entries can be registered (and amended) until midday on the day of the activity. You can withdraw your entry online until 8pm the night before (and you get an automatic credit of any payment).

Training will run from 12pm to 2pm

Miscellaneous

Meet in the field to the South-East of the mansion house  (w3w: nobody.lost.props. for 12 noon start (W3W of car park entrance = town.ever.upper).  Please wear comfortable clothing, with full leg cover (no shorts!) and shoes with grip. Bring water and any snacks/lunch you need and a compass if you have one (we can lend you one if not).
