General Info
Chinthurst Hill is a beautiful 17.2-hectare Local Nature Reserve south of Guildford in the Surrey Hills AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). There are great views from the top of the hill. It has woodland and open grassland The bracken on south part of the hill gets high in the summer and we suggest avoiding it. The hill is owned and managed by Surrey County Council. You can see more information on their website here.
The Tower is a Grade II Scheduled Monument.
The area is particularly suited to beginners and families.
We suggest beginners stay on footpaths and try 2 different courses. The first one is control sites 1 through to 5 in order and then finish. The second one is control sites 6 through to 10 in order and then finish. If you would like a more challenging course, you could do all 10 controls in any order.
Beginners could also do star courses from the tower at the top of the hill, using controls 2,3, 4,5,7,9 and 10, or loops from the tower such as controls 8, 10, 2 and 3 or 5, 7, 10 and 8.
Map packs are available GO via email, or you can download and print a detailed map with instructions FREE from the GO Orienteering website. This gives you the location of 10 Orienteering Controls.
