THE OO TROPHY (2003)

This Trophy, awarded every year, is named after "Occasional Orienteers", a club that merged with Guildford Orienteers a couple of decades ago. There are four categories, and certificates are awarded to the first 3 in each, with the winner being awarded the OO Trophy. Three of this year's Trophy winners are previous winners: Ian Cooper who won Senior Man in 1994 as an M50, Lucy Jepson who won Junior Lady in 1998 as a W12, and Ralph Street who has been Junior Man since he first won it as an M10 in 2000 (apart from a small blip in 2002). We also have a SLOW double - is this not clear evidence that the O gene must be on the X chromosome? And I wonder if Lucy expected to be getting back again the Trophy that she so kindly brought back to the event from last year's winner? So here they are, the 2003 OO Trophy winners:

Senior Men 1. Ian Cooper M60 BKO Blue course 12th 114 points
               2. John Rye M45 RMOC Black course 6th 112 points

               2. Julianna Grant W55 MV Green course 10th 109 points
               3. Sarah Rollins W21 BAOC Blue course 5th 107 points

               3. Bryony Crickmore W14 SO Green course 13th 90 points

Notice the SO whitewash on junior ladies! (or should that be turquoise?)

The scoring for this is based upon your age class and the SE League "target minutes/km" for that age class. To score 100 points an M60 has to run 8.75 minute kilometres, a W50 9.75 mins, M14 7.5 mins and a W18 8.25. However an M45 or a W21 have to run 7.25 or 7.5 mins/km respectively to achieve the same score. Also each age class must enter a minimum standard of colour/course (as advertised for the event). Interestingly over half of those named above ran up, ie above the colour of course required for their age class.
