Three virtual courses are available to Guildford Orienteers and local orienteering clubs. Click each for results/tracks to date:
They use MapRun (see our VOC page).
Before you travel (local phone signal not great), download the courses from the MapRun server (folder is UK/Surrey/SW Surrey/Petworth). Also download and print the PDF course maps to navigate by from here: Short – Medium – Long
Course maps are to be printed landscape on A4. The Short course should be printed at 1:5000 scale by scaling the print at 200% (highly recommended). Don’t try to navigate by the maps in the MapRun app, especially the Long course, as they are not well enough georeferenced. Use the PDFs.
These courses are located in West Sussex (Chichester District Council) which from 26/12/2020 is in a Tier 4 area and from 05/01/2021 is subject to National Lockdown. Our understanding is that a single daily session of (local) outdoor exercise is permitted for individuals not required to self-isolate, but you should not travel beyond your local area to do it (see British Orienteering Stay At Home Guidance). You should check current government rules for yourself as to whether this activity is permitted – don’t forget that your name will be shown in the MapRun results!
Please follow the applicable government COVID-19 restrictions and the British Orienteering Covid Guidance. In particular at the Start, give any other orienteers space to start at least 2 minutes apart.
Park at the National Trust North Car Park, 1 mile north of Petworth on the A283 (currently no booking required but please check NT website before travelling especially for opening hours; note parking fee for non-members of NT) – where the Flying Ducks cafe is – closest postcode is GU28 9LS
